An exchange with the equine dentist!

Hi Sue,

My  name is Tony Basile. First and foremost I want you to know I am a layperson.  I have been practicing equine dentistry for over 40 years (as an example, because of the California Veterinary Medical Board (CVMB), I can’t say I practice equine dentistry).  I have taught veterinarians, at many universities around the world.  I have also taught and lectured in the US, Texas AM, University of Ohio, University of Atlanta, to name a few, as well as I was on staff at UC Davis. There are a few books on the subject, I am either quoted or have written chapters in all of them. I would also like to mention. I never look at or touch a horse without a veterinarian being present.

I am ready to retired soon but my heart goes out to your efforts. The CVMB went after me a few years ago and tried to make my life miserable. Their efforts were futile but I will say it did cost me a large amount in legal fee to defend myself. I would also like to mention that some of the veterinarians I got started and helped to get into equine dentistry, were some of the same people (on the board) that turned their backs on me. Of course many were there for me and helped me with the mess.

My point is this, you are dealing with some real nasty, lying people. This fight between some of these veterinarians and non-veteriarians has been going on for many years. The approach you are taking has been attempted before, over and over.  I find, just as you figured that you have it, you find they have a meeting and you or your group is not there and it starts again. I am so happy I am ready to retire and be done with them.

Sorry if I sound like sour grapes but I’ve been watching this for about 10-15 years and it’s getting worse.

Tony
